Maybe it’s happened before, and the trauma still lingers.

Tell me—what’s one thing you’d do tomorrow if you weren’t worried about your back?
Or maybe you’ve seen someone close to you go through it, and it was awful to watch.

Fear of injuring ourselves is completely understandable.

An injury would be painful and so inconvenient—we’ve got too much to do! And what if it never gets better?

The thing is… fear can trick us into thinking that if we stay vigilant, we can avoid injury.

But here’s the problem with overprotecting ourselves:

👉We stop moving freely & hold ourselves more rigidly.
👉Our pain and tension often feels worse
👉 Our bodies (and minds) lose their adaptability.

When we live in constant fear, we let our bodies hold us back from enjoying the life we want—playing with our kids or grandkids, travelling, or just doing more housework 😜

So, what can we do instead?

Here’s what I work on with my clients:

1️⃣ Acknowledge the fear. Understand where it’s coming from—it’s there for a reason.

2️⃣ Recognise the impact. Overprotection can actually increase pain and stiffness.

3️⃣ Start small. Explore your comfort zone and gently nudge its edges.

4️⃣ Celebrate progress. Every small win builds trust in your body and your ability to move confidently.

You don’t have to do it alone—get support if you need it. But know this: you can learn to trust your body again. Constant fear doesn’t have to be your normal. Things can change.
