Here’s the thing: your back isn’t meant to be rigid.
It’s designed to move—to bend, extend, twist, and side bend. 🌊
Constantly bracing or “switching on your core” can actually work against you, creating tension and limiting natural movement, which may lead to more discomfort.
Of course, sometimes your back does need to be strong and stable—like when you’re lifting, coughing, or giving your 5 year old a piggy back!
But constantly engaging your core as if every movement is high-stakes just adds unnecessary strain.
Instead, try focusing on matching your effort to the demand of the movement. Everyday tasks don’t need the same level of bracing as lifting a heavy weight.
When we let go of over-bracing, we allow the spine to do what it’s made for—move freely and comfortably.
So next time, ask yourself: does this movement need full engagement, or just enough support to get the job done?
Learning this balance can be a game-changer for reducing back pain and improving overall function. 🌟
