If you really know me, you’ll know I love plants.
But if you really, really know me, you’ll also know I’m… terrible at keeping them alive 🤦♀️
It’s become a bit of a running joke amongst friends. I need the kind of plant that looks like it’s on its last legs, then springs back to life the moment I remember to water it 🌱
And luckily, I now have two of those. Both gifts. Both very resilient. And both, so far, still alive.
But if I’m really honest with myself…they’re surviving. Not thriving.
I’m giving them the basics – water (not always in the right amount), some sunlight (without really knowing how much they need). But I don’t really know plants, and I haven’t taken the time to understand what each one actually needs to thrive.
I guess I’ve been too busy over here hyperfocusing on what women need to feel strong 💪🏻
And the thing is, even though I don’t know a lot about plants… I know so many of us are cruising through our days just like my plants.
We’re getting the basics; we move around, we might lift things at work or have a child on our hip for 75% of the day…
These things make us active. And maybe capable for the task at hand.
But they don’t make us stronger.
And that’s the difference.
Being active and building strength is not the same thing.
Strength requires:
✔️ Structure: Knowing when to train different muscle groups so they have time to recover and adapt
✔️ Progression: Following a plan that gradually builds in challenge, so you’re not just doing the same thing on repeat
✔️ Dosage: Making sure you’re training each muscle group often enough and with enough volume for real results
That’s the difference between random YouTube workouts or the odd HIIT session on your fitness app vs. following a program that’s intentionally designed to help you progress.
And if you’re feeling like your energy’s flat, your strength has plateaued, or things just feel harder than they should, maybe your body’s like my plants…
Doing okay.
But ready for so much more.
