I used to be the queen of “all or nothing.”
If I couldn’t tick every box, I didn’t want to do it at all.
If a session wasn’t proper, it wasn’t worth it.
If I missed a day… I’d scrap the whole plan and “start fresh” Monday.
Sound familiar?
It felt disciplined at the time. Structured. Clear.
But it was actually brittle … and exhausting.
Especially once I became a mum.
Or got sick. Or injured.
Or just hit one of those seasons where I couldn’t give 100%… and then gave up completely.
What changed everything?
I stopped aiming for perfect, and started aiming for something.
Just something.
Here’s what that looks like now:
✔️ I use my All-or-Something Scale each week:
I set my ideal plan but also my bare minimum, and just aim to fall somewhere within range
✔️ I track consistency, not intensity.
A tick on the calendar counts, even if it was a short walk.
✔️ I plan for flexibility.
I expect life to life, so I don’t get frustrated when it does. If that means I only do one set of heavy bench press for the whole day, that’s what I do. I use my bare minimum on the days where more just isn’t possible
Because consistency doesn’t come from pushing harder.
It comes from learning how to keep going when life isn’t ideal.
That’s where the strength really builds.
