“Is that Normal”? Is probably one of the most common questions I am asked as a physio!

It’s funny isn’t it, that as human beings, we really just want to know that we lie somewhere in the range of ‘normal’?

Well normal is a rather wide range. Not an ideal.

Even (some degree) of all of these things CAN be normal:

1. Wrinkles (obvs)
2. Stiffness (as we age, after prolonged static positions)
3. Disc degeneration (as we age; they’re like wrinkles on our discs)
4. Abdominal separation (during pregnancy)
5. Pelvic organ prolapse (to some degree, with hormonal changes and age)
6. Joint wear and tear (as we age)
7. Muscle soreness (after hard or novel exercise)
8. Asymmetry (can be from birth or something we develop)

When I’m working with you, I’m not checking you to see if you’re “normal” or not.

I want to know if your problem is bothering you or not.

And if it is, why. Is it bothering you because it’s stopping you from living your fullest life?

Or is it only bothering you because you think it’s not normal?
