If I was worried about hurting myself doing weights at home, this is what I’d do.
1️⃣ First, I’d remind myself that form isn’t something you’re supposed to magically know.
It’s a skill.
It’s learnable.
And just like strength, it gets better with practice.
2️⃣ I’d start with one foundation movement at a time, and work my way through them: Squats, hinging (like deadlifts), row, overhead press, chest press.
3️⃣ I’d play spot the difference.
I’d watch how it’s ’supposed ‘ to look, then film myself or check my form in the mirror
4️⃣ I’d tune into how the movement feels, not just how it looks. I’d notice where I feel the muscles working in my body, how it feels in my joints. Both during and after the exercise.
5️⃣ I’d give myself time.
Time to build awareness.
Time to adjust.
Time to practice, without needing to perfect it straight away.
Because strong, safe training isn’t about nailing it on Day One, it’s about learning to listen to your body and knowing what to look for.
✨ If this is something you’re working on right now, I’ve made a simple Form Focus Guide to help.
It covers key cues for the 5 foundational movements, common mistakes, and how to build confidence in your technique at home.
Comment or DM me FORM and I’ll send it your way on this Insta post!
