Exercise, at its most basic form, is kind of… boring.
But so is drinking water. And yet, we do it because we need it.
The problem is we put so much pressure on exercise to be fun, exciting, and perfectly motivating. We think we need the right playlist, the right gym, or the perfect workout to get started.
But movement is just like hydration for our health and longevity- necessary, not optional.
Sure it’s fun to drink ‘dressed-up’ water (hmmm a nice icy, sparkling, lime-infused soda water 🍋🟩)
But if we didn’t accept that drinking water is, for the most part, kinda dull…we’d end up spending a lot of time, money and energy pursuing dressed up water.
Exercise is the same.
If we only exercised when it felt fun, we’d barely do it! Or we’d spend a lot of time, money and energy pursuing dressed-up exercise.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about adding the music, the beautiful space, the supportive community – dressed up exercise can be amazing!
But we need to get good at the boring stuff too.
Don’t expect exercise to entertain you 100% of the time. Just like water, it’s an essential, kinda boring, habit.
Instead of asking, “How can I make exercise more exciting?”, try asking, “How can I get it done, even when it’s boring?”
Let me know below how you’re embracing boring exercise this week!
