We thrive when we have a positive goal to move toward, not just a negative state we’re trying to move away from.
I love this passage from Emily & Amelia Nagoski’s book ‘Burnout – solve your stress cycle’ Because it’s just so relevant.
💮 It’s relevant to the women I see who are in pain – getting out of pain is usually the reason they seek treatment. When we set a goal instead that involves moving toward something they want to do (but can’t do because of the pain), it can be a game changer 👌Their mindset, motivation to do the work and outcomes are often totally different.
💮 It’s relevant to the Mamas I see who are overwhelmed and exhausted – often the focus is on how much sleep they’re not getting and how often they feel triggered by their kids 🤯 But when they shift to looking for ways to get more purposeful rest (which often doesn’t involve sleep) and meaningful connection, everything feels different 💕
💮 It’s relevant to the women I see who are just struggling to prioritise their physical health. Strict food restrictions and doing exercise they don’t enjoy that is motivated by a fear of weight gain or health issues only gets them so far ❌ Instead focusing on getting more good food in and finding more enjoyable ways to move their bodies because it feels good and allows them to enjoy life is a much better motivator 💪
Are you moving towards something positive? Or away from something negative?
